Breville Espresso Machine Redesign
BRIEF:
Disassemble an existing product (found in the garbage) and create a redesign with aesthetic and/or functional improvements. This project was divided into two stages, first disassembling and documenting the product as a team, then individually redesigning it with a focus on manufacturability of all redesigned parts.
TEAM:
Disassembly: Karen Tong, Yasmin Sirton, Wallace Lo.

Disassembly
The first step was to disassemble the coffee machine. Our machine seems to have failed from overheating because the plastic on the bottom was melted. We disassembled as much as possible while sketching and photographing each part. This machine had only one section that we couldn’t disassemble completely, as rivets were used to join rubber attachments for holding tubes to the main skeleton. Once the disassembly was completed and organized, we began measuring and defining material and manufacturing techniques for each part, which we then modelled in SolidWorks and used to create technical drawings.

Redesign
My focus in the redesign was to incorporate as many of the original internal parts as possible and improve ease of disassembly, while experimenting with the aesthetics of the design. This redesign was presented to the student body and industry professionals at KPU.
